Throughout the year the TAYSB involves area youth in planning and implementing special activities that build a strong sense of community pride and strengthens character. This enables young people to bond to their families, school, peers and community and consequently reduces the chances that they will develop problems.
National Youth Service Day is a day to celebrate and award youth for the hard work they put into their towns by dedicating their time to volunteering. Many youth volunteer at organizations and events including: school organizations, senior centers, sending care packages to the military, and collecting toys and goods for children and the homeless. Last year we had over 300 nominations! The youth are invited to a ceremony at Coe Park in Torrington where our staff, the Mayor, and other community members award them for the time and effort they put into helping others.
